After the sudden death of my father in 2018 I instinctually began to use seemingly inconsequential objects to give expression to the complex emotions & impacts that grief brings.
In seeking to evoke life’s wordless places I explored the rich seams of association that become attached to objects, materials and the actions of making, both in terms of the personal and cultural context and in the habits and rituals that unwittingly anchor us.
Teabags, writing ink, the threads of an unpicked seam. By attending to the familiar in unfamiliar ways I hope to stimulate an intimate response that is more felt than thought.
